The Right hand Covers the Left
As the saying goes, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.
Condoleezza Rice is defending the U.S.'s practice of extraordinary rendition, saying that suspects are not taken to places to be interrogated through torture. She is saying that suspects are only detained as long as hostilities are engaged. And she says they are only held long enough to evaluate evidence.
In a war that may never end, and a country that scoffs at international laws, I think Rice's talk is a pretty blanket pulled over the issue.
Considering the fact that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are still supporting aggressive interrogation, and rendition rights for the CIA, Rice's statements seem to be distracting from what's really happening.
I also get distracted from the fact that although the Bush administration says it doesn't use torture, there is blatant evidence to the contrary.
What a world we live in, when white is black and black is grey.
