Sad Days

Assassinations, bombings, death and destruction.

These are dark days for the world. And yet the pundits and ignoramuses say we should still stay the course, show our power, and not be afraid to flex our way to superiority. Of course, such things are easy to vouch for when there's no risk to oneself of becoming the next mangled corpse in the street. It's easy to stay the course when it's payed for with someone else's life. It's easy to want a regime change when the regime isn't yours.

Welcome to the Western powers. We own everything. Your lives. Your oil. Your money. We think we have it all, and all that wild power has gone to our heads. Conservatives. Liberals. It doesn't matter. The labels we give, like islamofascists, neo-cons, lib-lefts, neo-nazi's, dems, pinkos, whatever. They're all just names for people. People like you or me that others have found distasteful because of their thoughts.

Throwback to the middle ages, where those who didn't agree with you were your enemies. Lets go to war, and settle our differences by having our loyal puppets - I mean subjects, fight and die for us on a field of honorable (and bloody) battle.

If you're sitting there, thinking this whole affair, this time warp, this mind fuck, is depressing, wake up. You've been riding the bandwagon over the road paved in bones, freshly imported from the far side of the world, just so you can have a smooth ride while you blow the machines that exploit you.

Life isn't determined by what you have, what you have bought, who you've killed, or what you've taken. It's determined by what you've given, and what you're doing. This era will be an era of needless lying and bloodshed, tailored just so the history books will forget it, so that our children won't have a depressing legacy to live with.

But even a perfect machine doesn't produce perfect products. I'm banking on one child in every ten being smart enough to see through the bullshit, and to see their life for what it really is. A gift, and an opportunity.

Why is that?

Sorry I haven't updated this section in a while. The world just got so stupid that I couldn't feel I could comment on any of the news it produced without, indirectly, debasing my own intelligence (which by proximity alone, was suffering from the brain-draining effects of dumbfuckery and politics).

On the issue of politics, I would like to touch base on two topics, one for either side of the border. The first, and more local one, is our house of commons up here in Canada. Those reading from the states, read House of Commons as being similar to the lower half of Congress.

Anyway, it's in the news lately that Peter MacKay (a rather uninspired foreign affairs minister) called rival MP and former girlfriend (I can't believe politicians are allowed to date each other in the first place) Belinda Stronach a dog. Radio jockey followups aside, this topic was pretty much taking over the House for a better part of three weeks. If you're not shaking your head at this point, I'm afraid you're missing the point.

This is the highest government in Canada. And for three weeks, it was paralyzed by pointless he-said-she-said drama.

Go figure. I remember being called all kinds of names when I was in school. Mind me, I'm a working guy, and not a distinguished lady in the House of Commons. I got told to "suck it up, princess." I almost wish at times that there could've been a three-week holdup in the schoolyard everytime somebody called me a smartie-pants or buttface. Heh. Would've made my recesses a lot more interesting.

And, wrapping up that little rant, it brings me to my second item on the agenda.
South of the border, it's come to my attention that the neo-conazis are seeking re-election. In fact, I've been hearing their imaginative shots at the Democrats for about a month now. Heck, the Republicans have been saying the Democrats were in bed with the terrorists since before the Foley scandal. Funny how bullshit gets blanketed in the face of a real issue.
ie. a party taken over by crooks is covering one of their crooks, and when a crooked excuse doesn't work, do what any sane neocon does.
Blame the liberals.
Failing that, Democrats are the next best target.

I would also like to make a mention that there is still no standard for voting across the entirety of the United States of America. Add that to the fact that electronic voting machines are still shifty and not really to be trusted and you've got yourself a democratic fraud.
Or, another four years of Republican rule.

I'm still not sure what kind of person would support Bush willingly, unless they were either co-erced or incented to do so. Or spun to ignorance on what he actually stands for. However, it's a free country, and if 51% of Americans choose to support the next Republican term, so be it. If the remaining 49% choose to sit by and do nothing while their country is further sullied, so be it as well. I'm not an American, so such issues are not mine to decide. All I can say is, best of luck, and I hope for my neighbors-to-the-south sake that something will be done differently this time.
